Weather proofing doesn't mean ya should or could use in in a rain storm or dust storm but if needed will help protect your camera during these events.

69 dude
By the way, The 5D wasn't in the rain. It was inside the open patio door.
Actually it wasn't rain either, Delores was off camera with a garden hose.....

Well, based on the failure stories, I suppose I just won't be going to Antarctica soon. :) It doesn't matter what equipment it is, if you push the extremes, chances are you will have issues. Even cars have problems when we get blizzards and cold cold temps... common sense would help in such situations. Discussing camera failures is not pertinent here, as any equipment can fail under extreme circumstances. As far as dust, dirt etc... it's called taking care of your equipment. I see so many people with the best equipment and they absolutely refuse to take good care of it. It amazes me to point that they even want to show off how much of a beating it will take.

I don't know if you were reffering to me Don?
????
But When I said "footage of the rain", I did not mean take the camera out in the rain.... I meant recording the rain from an indoor location.
If the compression quality is bad the little dots (of the rain droplets) moving fast will be difficult for the camera to process. So the camera will compress that footage less.

What, I don't think so. I know I've been out shooting in light rain and blowing dust and dirt and worry about the camera. I still have the Canon 20D, had a 5D for a few years and now the 5D MKII. I'm a lot more comfortable in questionable weather with the 5D's than the 20D. I would really like to see a real side-by-side test of overall quality in photos, video as well as environmental strength. I'm still leaning to the 7D just for the stronger case.

Indeed most HDV do have problems with rain, leaves on trees that are blowing in the wind and waterfalls. In many cases it processes with a lot of artifacts. The 5DmKII seems to handle these issues better.
