Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge grand opening

A couple of days ago (10-13-2010) the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge had its grand opening to help expedite traffic away from the dam itself. Here is some footage shot over the last few years during the construction of this bridge. Perhaps all the documentaries that will be coming (I am sure) can use some of this:

There was a story about this today on NPR. One construction engineer referred to working on it as a "once in a lifetime experience".

Great selection of clips I hope they do well for you, the Hoover dam is on the list for me to do one day.

Your bridge was covered in today's NY Times. They call it "an engineering marvel".

The official name of this bridge is the Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. It stands 900 feet above the Colorado River just south west of the Hoover Dam. This bridge is the longest single span arch bridge in the western hemisphere and one of the tallest in the world. - Got that from a local journalist today. - Very cool information.

I found it annoying/amusing/sad to find that the Hoover Dam, a subject which has been shot and had shots published in great detail, is now a "secure area". I drove through at night after meeting with Andy, crossed the bypass bridge, and turned to go down to the dam to see if there might be a night shot of sorts....nothing major, of course, having researched before the trip and seeing that shots of the Hoover Dam rank right under ducks.

So I was informed by the security guy at the checkpoint, who did a cursory inspection of my van, and seeing the camera, Glidecam rig, tripod, etc onthe back bed, figured I was "perfessional" and made sure I knew that shooting video for commercial use is forbidden, and were I to be caught selling or publishing said shots I could be heavily fined.

WTF? Have they changed something that is super delicate? Is the Hoover Dam the exhaust port of the US Guv'mint Death Star?
