I recently did a heap of coffee related shots. I've got the word coffee in the title and the first keyword.

They come in at page 13 when you use the single search term 'coffee'.

Does anyone know what makes an image display before another with search results?

Why not check the first page of the coffee clips titles for your answer. Your keywords are ok just do a better job on your titles

The search results are affected by the date you uploaded the clip, the number of views and additional factors that the Pond does not disclose.

Now you made us all search for your coffee clips. Not to mention that at the time of writing this post it is early in the morning and I am quite confused: should I search for your coffees on Pond5 or should I go into my kitchen?

In my search your coffee appears on the front page(date ordered, 500 clips per page) out of 1949 online clips.

So, where is my coffee?

I've being playing around a bit more and the default ranking of images is partly based on sales. So an image that has more sales will display in front of an image with similar keywords.

Seems a bit of a catch 22. An image that hasn't sold will not sell because no one will see it!

Don't feel bad, with over a half million footage clips someone has to be in the middle or end. I have faith that P5 curators will put junk at the end. They do a preliminary rating which helps place the more likely to sell closer to the top. Remember that using a single keyword search has a lot of work to do to position clips priorities. Using multiple words will make a huge difference in priority. I've been with P5 since the beginning and still have a majority of my clips in the middle or end when using single word searches. Everyone does. To make regular and consistent sales you need a lot more clips and keep the quality high.

Also, there are buyers who seek clips that have not been downloaded before as they wish to have more original content, so don't worry, a clip having not been sold before can be an advantage in some instances, so long as the quality of the clip is as good if not better the the higher selling clips. As Phantonmewo put it, more clips, keep the quality high, and I'll add in patience.
