Have you used this type of clamps? Are they rigid?

I've had an off-brand of Superclamp for years. I use it with a smaller clamp to hold an umbrella, microphone, Zoom recorder. I've used it and its single stud to mount a quick release plate to and hold my FS700 (static). I've also used it to mount my PIX220 recorder to tripod, to camera handle, or to the inside of my VW as a recorder/monitor for driving POV stuff. It could also be used as a torture device if your thumbscrews are in the shop.
Massive utility. Mine shows no signs of wear or breakage. The Manfrotto ones are probably more solider, although I've been witness to two Manfrotto ballheads dying an early demise in normal use.

I literally have a dozen of these Magic Arms and they are awesome:

I use them for my audio recorder, my external monitor, my iPad, etc... I use them to clamp onto poles to mount my camera and my GoPros. Love them.

Yes, Those kind of clamps are really good and reliable. I use it a lot during the year. Specially for fashion week, when we need to stick a camera really hight to get a wide shot.
