Separating audio and video?

Something I've been mulling over recently involving sound... For the most part, my clips are silent. However, on clips such as this one, the sound is good enough that it could stand on its own.



Now - is it "nickel-and-diming" to separate the audio out and point to/link to the audio for the clip in the video's description, or does it make sense to do it that way?

Seems to me that most buyers don't need or want audio on many clips, and if they wanted it on this one, they would be happy to pay for it separately, and those that didn't want it would not have to cover the perceived costs of including it....?

In this particular case, I would separate both files. In the Video description I would place a link to the audio file because there are no intrusive noises from other sources.

For me, I leave audio in unless there is music or identifiable human voice. If there is bad wind noise then I separate it out. I figure it's a bonus to the buyer to have a video clip and an audio clip in one. You could easily separate the audio and sell it separately without the video. The buyer can easily remove the noise or audio so I don't think there is any downside or loss of sales by leaving it in unless like I said the wind noise is bad and then first impressions apply to the buyers decision.

I would leave the audio in if its good audio as a bonus to the buyer and an additional selling point for you. You could still separate it out though, and sell it as a stand alone audio clip for those in the market for just the audio.

OK, I will do what is right.

But which right?

I already strip distracting or unusable audio, and I'm all for making buyers happy, so I guess what I will do is to take the audio in question and make a separate file and upload that for use with the next clip that comes along and needs it, but leave the audio in the clip as it is because it fits and works, and maybe someone won't steal it (there's no lady crooning "Pond5.com" every few seconds to protect it).

I mention that because my most-viewed clips are the gunshots - not one has sold, but they have been "viewed (as in recorded) many times!

Now that I have thought all this out aloud (sorry) that is one compelling reason to sell the audio separately and NOT include it in the clip!

How do bona-fide buyers feel about this?
