Hi, and welcome.
Collections are fairly easy to manage ... use the arrow thingie to open the Collections panel, click the + to make a new one, name it something, and describe it. Hit Save. If you are making it for your own use, you can keep it private. If you want to make it public, you have to open it (the rectangle button) and then it opens fully in its own page. See the link saying "Make Public"? Click it. You can also reverse this action. The Share icon is what you use to post the Collection to a social media page or send to an email, etc.
As your portfolio grows, especially in the thousands, it's handy to have collections, to help keep track of things. Use them to put all shots of a topic, of a particular shoot, of a particular time frame, etc. Lots of ways to organize and cross-organize, and in some cases, easier to find something than using your uploads page.
Collections are of course handy to help you sell similar clips. You will occasionally get asked "Do you have any more clips like this, or same subject, different angle, etc.?" Nice to be able to quickly make a collection (or use one you already have) to showcase your work, as it is important, and likely that you will have a lot of different types of clips, and they will be suited for different audiences.
Good luck!
