The name Kentucky Jim came from my old friend and band mate, Charlie Chesterman. He dubbed me “Kentucky Jim Faris” in a surprise liner note, and the name stuck. I’m originally from Sugartit, Kentucky (yes,it's a realplace). I hit the road with a band and lived in a van for a while before spending two decades in Boston’s vibrant music scene. These days, I’m based in Washington, D.C. I play with a few great bands around town and spend a lot of time down in my basement making my own …
