I wish we knew who was purchasing our stuff. From now on, I plan on notifying all the people who I buy from and telling them what I intend on using it for. I'd love it if people did it for me (I'm just really interested what my clips are being used in!)

youseehim, your clips are great! .... Almost as great as mine....
(lol just kidding)
your clips are incredible they look like national geographic :)
I kinda feel like we have the right to know who is buying because otherwise we have no way of enforcing our own copyright
also a side note,
not every film maker respects copyright laws,,,, this movie is hilariously bad: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7069307816427160377 It uses clips directly from Star Wars, and the soundtrack is from Indianna Jones. LOL! and it was in theaters, (in the middle east)

One of the reasons RF clips are sold as such without identifying the buyer is so "artist" won't bother the buyer or try to sell direct. It is probably not good to to let the artist know in most situations. Letting us all know about Dreamworks was nice though. A list of "major or significant" buyers that have used P5 would be a great motivation to use but also lets the competition know who to market too stronger. A real sticky situation indeed.

Question: If I buy/download a still image from P5 (isolated) and then animate it and incorporate it into a composite, can I sell the result on P5, or do I have to get specific permission from the other artist? The base layer is video I shot.
Hell, I don't even know if I can pull this off...it's just an idea.
But I ask because when I think of, say, one of my fire clips (which sold recently, yaya!) that is almost certainly going to be used in an element in composite, but how? For instance, if they bought the fire because they want to make their animated dragon breathe such, and create a clip to sell on P5, would that be ok or should I be mad?

Miz, can you imagine this: I buy one of your clips, I remove the last frame and sell it on P5 as mine?
You cannot resale an image you have not shot yourself as stock. You may incorporate it in a job for a specific customer.
If you still want to sell a modified photo as stock, the original artist has to agree, and sign a "work for hire" agreement. Ask Don, he knows.

That's kinda what I figured - I'm having trouble getting a response back from the artist in question, so that gums things up too.
So what about my example with the fire? Is there a special category of rights/copyright allowances for elements?

They cannot return even one pixel to P5.

id like to buy some 1930/40 video clips but ... i found the same clips on other sites who are charging at up to 12 times the price as found on Pond5 here ! ... so we are now hesitant to buy as we have had no answer from the sellers from here and from their home site and from the other footage sites ... any recommendations on what to do ?

Thanks, wideweb! Good to know. Glad I'm clear on that now. It is just as I suspected.
