Does nature footage sell?

No, nature footage doesn't sell.

I wonder where all this money is coming from?

"Nature" means a lot of things, what are we talking about ?
Wildlife? NatureTimelapse? Landscapes? Animal behavior ? Usually my (rare) nature sells are animal behavior like these



and my timelapses are almost at 0 sales

Go on and encourage newbies to upload minimum 1000 clips for the chance to sell 1 or 2 all 2 months ;)

Especially Indonesia:
I have a collection with 649 clips from Bali and Flores, lots of this in 4k. Indonesia sells nearly never. Have more sales with the swallows and clouds direct out of my home window in Germany.

"Nature" = not people, technology, fashion, trends, cities, infrastructure, transportation, etc. (for the purposes of this discussion) but could be applied also to say, a garden, or a field, some animals, depending, ... a fair amount of grey area, for sure.

I'd say half of my sales this year just here on P5 are "nature" that is, do not include people, fashion, trends,cities, infrastructure, transportation, etc. ... Certainly would not look that $$$$+ gift horse in the mouth.

People mostly live in cities. People stories sell. People shoot people in cities. People shots are just as common if not more common than nature shots, but good nature is fairly timeless, as opposed to people/tech, especially, as we live in a changing world. City people come to "not city" and shoot a few "nature" shots and then go back to fill most of their portfolio with people, technology, fashion, trends, cities, infrastructure, transportation, etc. and it is true, in that case, it certainly looks like nature doesn't sell. People living in "not city" have more time to create a wider gamut of nature shots, thereby increasing the likelihood of their nature selling, especially since, as in my case, I don't have the same opportunity to shoot people, tech, infrastructure, yada yada..

OliverM, that is an interesting observation regarding location/sales. Very interesting indeed. I sure know I'd love to get out more and shoot (everything) in other countries/continents. It would be interesting to see how the shots I got elsewhere would compare in sales to those I've had here (West/Northwest Coast some interior USA and Canada)

I'd say if you see something that is cool, and it is of nature, an animal, does not include people, technology, fashion, trends, cities, infrastructure, transportation, etc. , and you don't have anything else to shoot at the time, certainly go ahead and shoot it. Timelapse? Well, yeah, same thing ... don't shoot a timelapse of anything with your one camera if you have other, better shots happening ... but if not, there is no reason not to shoot it and upload it, whether it is nature or (that other line of clarifying data) because when it comes down to it, EVERYTHING can sell. Bonus: If you have (or are) a decent or interesting looking personage with some recent fashion/tech/etc. then after you shoot the forest shot, then shoot a person in the forest ... trying to get reception, taking a picture, whatever. I'm horrible at doing this, but really is the happy marriage of nature+(people, fashion, trends,cities, infrastructure, transportation, etc.)

My experience with my own clips, is that nature doesn't sell all that well.

Nature is on its way out anyway, according to some newly installed Blond Leader. Take it from a guy who knows how to make a buck..!
