Anybody recommend a good program for editing & converting mt2s 1080 filming. Loosing some of my quality with current programs used.

Tell us more..you aren't shooting interlaced and rendering progressive are you? What program are you using now? What workflow/settings are you using? Are you shooting progressive or interlaced? What camera? Mac or PC?

Just took a quick gander at your portfolio.....having JUST got back from a little day cruise on our boat chasing whales, I can tell you I'l be jealously looking at your work....cool stuff!

Using Sony HDD camera. Filming 1080 @ 16. Using Emicsoft to full screen my m2ts and think that's where I'm loosing it. Did that for Pond5 because they didn't want the black bands on top & bottom. Now have a video stock company that got a hold of me and wants my clips for there site. Seems to be a lack of my type of work.

Just went through the Panama Canal @ night and filmed all of it. Heading for Barbados by ship now.

I use Sony Vegas Pro 9e. Something about the way you worded your response makes me suspicious of your workflow...you should not have black bands at the top and bottom. Forgive me if I'm being a dunderhead, but what is the @16 you specify?

For about $69 you can get Sony Vegas MovieStudio - you'll be able to edit your clips without any loss whatsoever. There are many solutions to this...sorry, I am not familiar with Emicsoft. I have sold a few "camera native" m2t files....trimmed, of course, but not transcoded so there is zero data loss. Most of these were from the days when I shot interlaced....let the buyer do the de-interlacing if they want/need, and any color correction.

Pond5 had no problem with these files, so you must be doing something funny...

AVC HD 16M (FH) is what my camcorder is set on. The bands I'm talking about is like cinemax Where you have black on top and bottom and not full screen. Pond5 had me convert to full screen using the Emicsoft programing. Pond5 has no problem with it nor any of my clips purchased. I feel I'm loosing quality and have had to give some TV programs & company in Quebec for a documentary my original m2ts because of it and they did the converting with their programs. I'm using the PMB program for Sony for trimming only. Like a program where I can do it all, including time lapse with some of my pieces. Specially the Panama Canal filming where going through takes longer than 60 seconds. Would be fun to do at least one lock with time lapse.

I understand about the bands...what I don't understand is why you are seeing them. What are the other options on your camera, and what are they currently set on? If you are using your program for trimming only, but are getting rid of letterboxing with it, .... that's not right...there is something funny, I say....you're not shooting in 720 are you?

You can download and try any version of Vegas for 30 days. I prefer the Pro version, but for basic trimming, editing, correction, timelapse work, the consumer version would work fine for everything you are looking to do. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/trials/moviestudiope

Since your camera is HDD, and you are transferring the files straight over, there is either something funny about your trimming program or you are shooting in 720 (or SD) and uprezzing to HD, which would explain the quality loss....

Do you still have the messages from the company in Quebec? There might be clues in there.

You're in a special situation, and it would be good to make sure that you are "getting the shots" without technical problems that will make you mad later!

I look forward to seeing the lock time lapse!

Bluefin2010 whats the model of your camera? We know your using a Sony HDD but it might help if we could rearch the specs for the camera. Also which Emicsoft are you using as there are two one has a DVD ripper which convert M2t the other doesn't do M2t

Using Sony HDR-XR200 filming AVC HD 16M (FH) , HD FH , 1920 X 1080. Not using SD card the memory on camcorder is 240 GB.

Looking on line at the Sony Vegas Pro 10

Only in Barbados for 4 days and 2 of them I'm off duty. Then another tour for 30+ days to the mouth of the Amazon River and back to Barbados for 3 more days. Then leave for Port Elizabeth Africa.

Do have 24/7 internet on the ship.

Thanks a lot for help
