Stupid rejection reasons...

Uh ..., in the P5 ambassador facebook page they write "what would make our curators happy"!
I'm not one of those who's complaining nonstop or cultivate bad vibes, but that wording comes like a hit in the face.
Surely not the real meaning of it, but shows that the ideology of P5 seems to go in a direction which is not a lucky one for contributors. One more reason to think about the future of P5 as itself. In Germany we say "Who is climbing high can fall very deep!".
Btw., congrats Mizamook, you're again a great teacher about possible pricing!

@ Gene
"$479"
Wow!! Well-Done !!
I think some one from Cologne dare not to price over $10 for this HD if she has any like this at all !! For her it is just a easy simple clip.. hallelujah !

No, that is a great clip. I would have priced it at 120-150 for 4k or 60-75 for hd. But 479 is much better of course, congrats!.
I will eventually try a lightbox with 500 dollar files (some people are very convincing...). I´ll follow that sales thread more to see what kind of content sells. But then you don´t put these files on SS or videoblocks or anywhere else with lower prices? They are in practise exclusive to pond5, right?

@ jcobalt we've seen your work, pricing and much of it isn't even worth a curator's time let alone taking up space on a hard drive.

@jason Thank you :) All comments appreciated...I´ve just looked at your port as well. We obviously live in different worlds and have very different ideas of production value.

"to see what kind of content sells" ....
.... isn't wasting time, but wrong ideology. Usually it's rather the one and unexpected clip which somebody needs and although it's not exclusive the price at itself offers some exclusivity because you won't find it again in ever 3rd YT video or flyer ;)
The best start for higher pricing ideology is to use clips which cannot become reproduced so easy. But i've also sold a clip for $400 while there are several similar others for 20-60 USD in the pool.

"to see what kind of content sells" ....
Well, a lot of those selling content are already in P5, more of such clips will not be accepted. :D

In fact, it was a desperation clip, made after a long drive up a mountainside, sleep in cold VW, wake early to crappy weather and that's the only clip I got ...! (But then I love mist in trees ... note my avatar.)
The clip is available on other platforms. Many are. My only "exclusive" is the eagle slowmo shot.
I think different people/businesses shop here; I choose to cater mostly to those who have need for higher priced clips. That one is a good example of how far it can be pushed. On the other hand, it has been not uncommon for me to acquiesce to requests for lower pricing for lower budget projects if simply asked nicely. I use my good fortune to help others whenever I can.
Back to topic: We all want happy curators - they are part of our greater team, part of the process, and it's not likely the funnest job in the world ... we've been asking for stricter curation for years, but they have apparently decided to hurl the baby out with the bathwater ... the bathwater being grainy, shaky, jello-infested, glitchy, poorly composed clips with off colors and bad light, accompanied by inaccurate, incomplete, poorly-speld, spammy metadata. The baby takes many forms, and, in my opinion, is not something that can be defined with absolute precision ... how can P5 expect to decide what is going to be included in the collection based on pre-conceptions? That is a recipe for NOT having what is needed in the future. This is not museum or art show curation, this is medley of wide-ranging subjects, in myriad incarnation and distinguishing detail, infinite in variations, and continually increasing in quality as shooter's eye, experience, and gear improve ... and yes, I posit that nature shots can be as varied and valuable as those shots of pretty rich urbanites with the latest tech fad ... which seem to get an awful lot of acceptance, (an example). It's not so much resentment that I don't have those clips .. sure, they would be fun to shoot (up to a point) it's just that such is not part of my life ... so I shoot what is within reasonable range. I do not understand at all why we are having to guess at what will be accepted other than to make sure the clip has all the attributes of "quality" ... and even that is varied ... I've made many thousands off clips that were shot with lesser cameras, exported with less than perfect settings, some even are compromised in some way, yet they filled a need for somebody willing to pay for them, and happily so.
Finally, if they are looking for truly unique content, how can it sell? Truly unique means no-one has conceived of its need, nor will they have any reason to look for it. Again, this is not an art show, it is a place to come and find content - something you as a client, with your own specific needs and parameters, and I could say, again, I'm glad I priced this clip[ ( 48508385 ) at $199 (relatively recent sale) ... there are better, and cheaper, but they chose mine, which nowadays, would almost certainly get rejected ... but someone valued some part of this clip enough to choose mine.
Current Pond5 curation wants to remove the option of choice from the client, and become the "place to come if you want limited selection of clips tightly curated by people who think slow bloated front pages and dancing goofs in bizarre shades and kitsch is cool".
Lawrence keeps posting about an upcoming guide made by curators .. what they are looking for ... again .. why are the curators looking for anything but obvious flaws? I hope they get it sorted, and they are not truly going insane. We'll probably see that guide about the same time we get our stats back, and the uploads page gets fixed so it doesn't have to load all the social media stuff before we can click on anything on the page, and whatever happened in March as far as sales gets fixed.
I'll be gone for about 2 weeks doing other job, and I expect it all to be fixed by the time I get back so I can start uploading and tagging again ... otherwise, well, I guess I work harder on replacing Pond5 as my initial, main agency ... there are some other options I have not yet fully gotten into, and this is a great time to let the dust settle here I guess.

Want to have fun seeing mass duplication and similar ... do a keyword search for "rain" "window". WOW!
